Rough Sleepers

Since April 2009 the King’s Arms Project has been running the ‘Rough Sleepers Outreach Service’ initiated by Bedford Borough Council and we have been recognised as a key player in helping the Borough achieve the Government’s ‘Rough Sleeping Champions’ status.

This service brings support to those who are long-term rough sleeping, who are not engaging with available services, or who have been serially excluded and need support even to take up basic support or housing options.

Our Rough Sleepers Outreach worker engages clients through street work; meeting people where they are at, while signposting them to relevant agencies & services and supporting them into suitable accommodation. Part of a range of measures initiated by the Council to help reduce rough sleeping in the area, the service compliments other areas of Project work really well, contributing to a holistic approach to supporting the homeless in Bedford.

“It’s so exciting to see long-term rough sleepers get and keep their own homes. I love seeing people realise they are worth more than the life they had been leading.” Rough Sleeper's Outreach Worker
