King’s Arms Project (KAP) is seeking to appoint a Director of Services to help set the direction for KAP’s future development, creating culture, services and structures which give people the tools, paths and opportunity to move sustainably out of poverty.

At KAP, we believe that there is no such thing as a hopeless case. We refuse to give up on anybody and believe that every homeless person can have a bright future. 

KAP has been operating in and around Bedford since 1989, supports between 500-700 people every year and is a charitable company with an annual turnover of around £1.4M, employing over 40 staff. KAP is a faith-based organisation and is both an independent charity and a ministry of the King’s Arms Church, Bedford.

The Director of Services role will be responsible for Leadership, management and oversight of ‘Accommodation’, ‘Opportunity’, ‘Outreach’ and Refugee Support, supporting the successful delivery of service objectives. In addition, as Director of Services you will work with the CEO and Trustees, to define and deliver the organisational strategy and promote the vision, ethos, values and mission of KAP.

The successful candidate will possess a combination of skills, experience, drive and personal qualities required to support the CEO in leading KAP. They will have a passion for the vision of KAP, for the character, energy and credibility to make the vision a reality.

Support Worker(s)

Salary: £18,500 per annum

We’re looking for new Support Worker(s) to help bring hope, community and opportunity into the lives of homeless people. If you’re passionate about loving the poor and supporting the disadvantaged, we want to hear from you!

Our current vacancies are based on an average of 40 hour per week working a rota of days, evenings and nights. Some weekend work will also be required.

Voluntary Support within our Pathways to Employment (PtE) team

We have a current need for voluntary support within our Pathways to Employment (PtE) team

PtE works with homeless, recently homeless and rough sleeping clients, helping them to make the huge leap from homelessness to employment. It is split into three distinct areas:

  • Mentoring
  • Life-skills courses
  • Voluntary work placements and employment


2019 sees the programme continuing to grow, preparing clients for work and obtaining work placements and training opportunities. As such we are looking for somebody that has a passion to see change in people’s lives and would be free to volunteer a few hours each week.

We are ideally looking for somebody that can support us on some or all of the following days:

  • Each Tuesday 9am-4pm, and additional hours if possible;
  • Alternate Wednesday mornings to help with a course;
  • Thursday mornings to help cover Job Club.



  • Help set up courses/rooms
  • To support clients in courses – facilitating positive interactions and building good relationships with the clients.
  • To assist clients with Job searches  and voluntary job searches
  • Experience of working with people from different social/ educational backgrounds
  • Support the creation of fresh Pathways to Employment material for social media.
  • Helping to set up Job’s board for some clients
  • Food shopping for courses
  • Keeping our records up to date
